MEDRAD XDS™ Extravasation Detection System

The new MEDRAD XDS™ extravasation detector technology for the Stellant CT Injection System directly senses contrast or saline pooling under a patient’s skin during a Computed Tomography (CT) procedure.  The patented XDS technology is designed to prevent moderate to severe extravasations that may seriously injure patients.

Reliable Radiofrequency Technology

XDS uses patented, safe RF technology to detect extravasation.

RF signal passes directly through the soft tissue during an injection and is compared with the patient’s baseline reading.  If an extravasation occurs there is a large change in the RF signal reading which alerts the injector to stop.

Reliable technology that minimises false/positive detections.

Patient safety

The XDS sensors do not interfere with palpitation at the injection site.

The XDS self tests before every patient to ensure correct operation of the system every time.

The XDS establishes a baseline reading for every patient to ensure accuracy of signal detection and hence extravasation detection.

Why does your practice need the XDS Extravasation System?

Faster injection flow rates and more complicated procedures means staff cannot always visualise high risk injections. The potential for severe extravasations is increased in these circumstances. A severe extravasation can lead to serious medical complications such as infection or compartment syndrome that may require surgical intervention
